Water wise
Currently, Parkes Shire does not have any mandatory water restrictions in place.
However, Parkes Shire Council encourages the community to continually take measures to reduce our water demand and ensure we all use water efficiently. Click below to find out how you can save water in your home and garden.
In the home
- Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth
- Take shorter showers
- Install a water efficient showerhead
- Only use your washing machine when you have a full load
- Wash your vegetables in a container, not under running water
- Collect water as you wait for it to heat
- Before purchasing a new appliance, ensure they are water efficient
- Fix dripping taps
In the garden
- Water when the sun is low, before 10 am or after 4 pm
- Apply a 7-10-centimetre-deep layer of mulch around your plants to prevent evaporation
- Use a broom or rake to clean leaves and debris off your driveway and other surfaces
- Group plants that need the same amount of water together to prevent over watering
- Pick plants that suit the climate and soil of your area
- Keep swimming pools covered to reduce water loss from evaporation
- Don't overfill your pool
- Only backwash your filter when necessary
