Parkes Shire Council manages water infrastructure for the Parkes/Peak Hill Water Supply System that supplies the towns of Parkes and Peak Hill, as well as the townships of Alectown and Cookamidgera.

Council also manages the water supply to the townships of Bogan Gate, Trundle, Tullamore and rural consumers in between. This system is known as the 'B' section pipeline, which carries water from Forbes. 

Council’s water charges have been developed in accordance with the State Government’s Best Practice Guidelines and Section 501 of the Local Government Act. You can download the Best Practice Pricing Policy here

Compliance with these Guidelines is an important criterion for eligibility for funding under The State Government’s Country Towns Water Program. A water access charge will apply to all properties (including vacant land) within 225m of a Council water pipe, and a sewer access charge will apply when situated within 75m of a Council sewer main, whether connected or not.

Residents and ratepayers who are required to operate a home dialysis machine in their principal place of residence are subject to a water usage concession. See Water Charges for Home Dialysis Policy for more information.

 

Make an application to have your water connected

To apply for an urban water connection, please complete the Application for Urban Water Connection form and lodge with Council with payment for the fee.

Water meter and billing information

Since 1 July 2010 Council reads water meters four (4) times a year. Readings are done in September, December, March and June with the accounts being due the following month.

Water meters may also experience outages or inaccuracies. Council is required to ensure that the processing of all water accounts affected by stopped water meters and inaccurate water meters are assessed and processed in a consistent manner and in accordance with presiding legislation.

 

Water leakages

Council encourages you to read your water meter to monitor your consumption or to detect a possible water leak.

To check if you have a water leak in the pipes on your side of the meter, choose a day when no one will be home and ensure all taps, etc are turned off. Read your meter when you leave your home and again upon your return (the longer the better, some leaks are slow and hard to detect).

If the meter registers water usage, you may have a leak somewhere in the system and you should call your plumber to investigate.

The property owner is responsible for the maintenance and repair of their water service (from Council's water meter). Where water leaks have been revealed, property owners may request that Council provide an allowance for lost water.
