Today, Friday 22 September 2023, Rex Airlines have made the difficult decision to reduce the flight schedule between Parkes and Sydney from Sunday 29 October 2023 to Saturday 30 March 2024.
The decision by the airline is due to the significant loss of pilots and aircraft engine supply chain disruptions.
From Monday 30 October, the Parkes to Sydney flight schedule will be as follows:
Sunday - Friday (no Saturdays)
- ZL6258, depart Sydney 12.05pm, arrive Parkes 1.10pm
- ZL6529, depart Parkes 1.35pm, arrive Sydney 2.35pm
Rex intends to return to the standard flight schedule from Sunday 31 March 2024, subject to the situation's improvement.
The ability for Council to include Rex air services in its Parkes promotion is such a positive message for the economic and organic growth of our community. This service, along with the incredible potential growth we see coming from our general community, existing major developments and business development in the Special Activation Precinct, drives our confidence in the region.
The promotion and support for Rex, has and will always be, in Council's growth plan communications to community and business alike.
Council would like to continue discussions with Rex during this period of reduced services to ensure that the communication lines remain strong.
In consultation with Rex, the extent of the Pilot and Engine shortage and its impact on the ongoing ability of Rex to maintain its current service schedule is understandable and all hopes are for a positive outcome going into the new year.
