Parkes Shire Council has a variety of facilities and services that will experience closures or interruptions over the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year holiday period.
- Customer Service Centre
Closed from 2:45pm on Thursday 19 December for an all-council employees meeting.
Closed from 5pm Friday 20 December and reopen on Thursday 2 January 2025.
- Parkes Shire Library
Closed from 2:30pm on Thursday 19 December for an all-council employees meeting.
Closed from 5:30pm on Friday 20 December and reopen on Thursday 2 January 2025.
- Peak Hill Library
Closed from 2:30pm on Thursday 19 December and reopen on Thursday 2 January 2025.
- Trundle and Tullamore Libraries
Will continue their 24-hour service through the Christmas-New Year period.
- Central West Family Day Care
Closed from Friday 20 December 2024 and resume standard operating hours from Thursday 2 January 2025.
- Parkes Depot and Workshop
Closed from Friday 20 December 2024 and reopen Monday 6 January 2025, however essential services (including ranger, companion animal services and public amenities cleaning) will continue through this period.
- Parkes Visitor Information Centre and Henry Parkes Centre
Will maintain normal operating hours, closing only Wednesday 25 December 2024 (Christmas Day).
- Parkes Aquatic Centre and Peak Hill, Trundle and Tullamore Public Swimming Pools
Will maintain their respective operating hours, closing only Wednesday 25 December 2024 (Christmas Day) and Thursday 26 December 2024 (Boxing Day).
- Parkes Waste Disposal Facility
Will maintain existing opening times, closing only Wednesday 25 December 2024 (Christmas Day), Thursday 26 December 2024 (Boxing Day), and Wednesday 1 January 2025 (New Year's Day).
- Peak Hill Waste Transfer Station
Will maintain existing opening times, closing on Thursday 26 December (Boxing Day).
- Domestic Waste and Recycling Collection
Will continue as scheduled; residents must ensure that their bins are out for collection the night before their scheduled pickup day due to an earlier collection time.
During the Christmas closure period, the telephone number for Council's Customer Service Centre (02 6861 2333) is diverted to the After-Hours Call Centre. The Call Centre has a list of emergency contacts, ensuring that any emergencies and urgent enquiries are promptly referred to the appropriate Council Officer for actioning, if and as required. Standard enquiries received during the closure period will be logged for action upon Council's Customer Service Centre resuming operations in the New Year.
While Council's Works Depot will close from Friday 20 December 2024, a skeleton crew and on-call arrangements are scheduled to enable continuity of essential services over the closure period, and to ensure any urgent matters that may arise can be addressed.
