Community Consultation
We invite the community to "Have Your Say" on the proposed changes by completing the surveys below:
Background
As part of the proposed changes resulting from the construction of the Parkes Bypass project, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has requested Council's assistance with the road naming and addressing process, including changes to both existing and proposed roads. The following information has been provided to support these changes, whether they involve a road name change, a rural address update, or both.
What is Rural Addressing
Rural addressing is a unique property identification system that helps emergency services, postal services, and visitors locate properties in non-urban areas where traditional street addresses may not be available.
In rural and semi-rural areas, address numbers are determined based on the distance of the property's access point from a designated starting point (datum) on the road. For example, A datum point is the fixed location at the beginning of a road, usually:
- The road's intersection with another named road, or
- The start of a road where properties begin to be addressed.
This distance, measured in metres, is then divided by 10, with the resulting number:
- Rounded to the nearest odd number for properties on the left side of the road.
- Rounded to the nearest even number for properties on the right side of the road.
Changes Due to the Bypass
With the construction of the Parkes Bypass, several road names and addresses will be affected, requiring either renaming or the allocation of new rural addresses.
As the Parkes Bypass will become the new Newell Highway:
- Peak Hill Road will be extended from its current datum point at the intersection of Dalton and Bogan Streets to the intersection of the bypass and the existing Newell Highway.
- Forbes Road will be extended with its new datum point at the intersection of Hartigan Avenue and Forbes Road, Parkes to the intersection of the bypass and the existing Newell Highway.
- Brolgan Road be the datum point at the intersection of Hartigan Avenue and the proposed road name 'National Logistics Boulevard'.
