Local Government Elections 2024

Overview

Get ready for the approaching Local Government Elections scheduled for Saturday, 14 September 2024. Whether you're planning to vote or considering a run for Council, we've collated resources to support you in your preparations.

Voting in this election is an opportunity to determine 10 representatives who form the elected body that governs Council across various aspects of our Local Government Area. A key responsibility of all elected councillors is to act in the interests of our residents and ratepayers through open, transparent and informed decision making.

How to vote

Whether you're a returning voter or its your first time, head over to the NSW Electoral Commission website to find out more.

The Parkes Shire Local Government Election will have ballot paper with group voting squares.  View a preview of the ballot paper here: Parkes Shire Council 2024 Ballot Paper

Grouped Candidates

A ballot paper with group voting squares has a thick line running across it, with group voting squares above the line and columns of candidate voting squares below it. Below the line, the group candidates are listed in columns directly beneath their group voting square. The group chooses the order they list their candidates below the line.

The squares above the line allow voters to vote for all candidates listed in that group (with the topmost candidate receiving the highest preference in that group, and the bottommost candidate receiving the lowest preference in that group).

Ungrouped Candidates

Candidates not included in a group are shown in a column on the right-hand side of the ballot paper, in ballot paper draw order, and these are referred to as ungrouped candidates.
